Medical selfie

Taking medical selfies and sharing them with doctors empowers and reassures healthcare consumers, and can improve doctor-patient relationships.

Queensland University of Technology's Dr Kara Burns has published research on the benefits of the medical selfie, or as it is more accurately known, "Consumer-Generated Health Data". Consumers feel more empowered across physiological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral domains. This provides the following benefits:

  • Can assist in clinical diagnosis;
  • Increases the patients sense of reassurance;
  • Improves communication with providers;
  • Promotes greater personal responsibility by the patient; and
  • Improves the patients confidence and satisfaction of the service by the doctor.

It might be time to start encouraging patients to use PicSafe too!
